Idea and Vision

Based on personal experiences, valuable input from friends working in HR, and the growing potential of AI, the idea for pulpo+ was born—a platform that connects recruiters and talent. In the early stages, the market, value proposition, and user needs were analyzed in depth.

  1. Interviews and surveys with HR professionals

  2. Ideation workshops

  3. Definition of the value proposition

  4. Development of a roadmap and initial strategies

User Story Map

Based on a solid understanding of the industry, its pain points, needs, and challenges across both user groups, personas and scenarios were developed. Building on this, a user story map was created to visualize the entire journey between talent and recruiters. This also enabled the definition of the MVP.

However, much of this remained a vision, as the overall strategy still needed to be developed.

Concepts and User Flows

  1. To ensure a seamless user experience and validate the strategy, workshops were conducted with the team. Ideation methods helped incorporate the team’s creative input and ensured that everyone shared the same level of understanding.

  2. The outcomes of these workshops were then translated into screen flows. The screens were designed in high fidelity using existing components from the design system. These flows were also used for testing with recruiters and talent. To improve clarity and understanding, the individual sections were labeled.

  3. To further support the development process, the individual sections were documented and described in Figma and Confluence.

Building the Design System

The component library

In parallel with the concepts, style guide, and user flows, the component library was developed. The image on the left shows a section of the header as well as additional pages from Figma.

To enable interactive components for usability testing, many components were extended with variants.

The styleguide

The style guide was developed in parallel with the concepts and other UX activities. Icons were adopted from the Google Material Design Library.

The style guide was continuously refined to ensure accessibility. Some colors were replaced, and certain typefaces were removed.

Social Media, SEO & Marketing

The social media strategy was defined for both user groups. For recruiters, LinkedIn is the key platform, while Instagram and TikTok are more relevant for talent.

To define the tone of voice and communication strategy, a workshop was conducted to develop an overview of the strategic directions (see image on the left). In addition, a competitive analysis was carried out.

Alongside social media, SEO was a key component of the marketing strategy. It was decided to develop a blog to place relevant keywords beyond the landing pages and improve search engine visibility.

This process was partially automated using various AI tools such as Perplexity, supported by a curated collection of ideas for blog content.

Learnings

This project demonstrated how crucial it is to prioritize strategy from the very beginning. Because both user data and existing customers were required to create a seamless user experience and a functional product, developing the MVP proved to be challenging, a classic chicken-and-egg problem. The right strategy also demanded an entirely new flow, which was developed over multiple iterations and required a significant amount of time. Maintaining a shared level of understanding within the team was another challenge, especially given the constantly evolving strategies.
